12345, originally titled Lavender Dream, is the default Picture Password setup image. The photograph was taken by Bernard Hymmen, a senior software engineer at Microsoft, on July 1, 2004. It depicts several lavender flowers on a blurred grass background.

The image can be observed when setting up a picture password for the first time; the resource containing it is stored in the Windows.UI.PicturePassword.dll dynamic link library. As the picture password setup interface has not endured any change since Windows 8, the same image can be found in 8.1, 10 and 11 under the same conditions.

History

This picture was taken by Bernard Hymmen, a senior software engineer at Microsoft, on July 1, 2004 using a NIKON D70 camera. Its original resolution is 3008x2000. The original image is available for download on Bernard's personal website,[1] and is also available for purchase as a print.

The picture used in Windows was slightly edited from the original image; it is stretched in some places (noticeable by the slight pixelation on the lower flower stem), has an overlay that is especially noticeable near the top flowers, and a flower in the center was replaced with a blurred copy of the foremost flower.
