Forest, originally known as USA, California, Del Norte Redwoods State Park, path through forest, is a sample picture included in Windows Vista, licensed from Getty Images. It was taken by Darrell Gulin, who also took several images used in Windows, such as Vista's img7. It depicts an old, abandoned tire track through a forest in Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, California, United States. Forest also appears on Windows DVD Maker's start page along with img10 and Garden.

History

Darrell Gulin took the photo on an old, abandoned tire track through a forest in Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, California, United States around June 1993, using an unspecified Canon camera and lens with Fuji Velvia 40 film. He recalls encountering a female mountain lion with cubs, growling at him on the trail, so he banged his tripod on the ground to scare her away. He enjoys the exposure he gets from the image being sold on Getty and Corbis.[1]

A more saturated version was also available from Corbis, and was transferred to Getty so both versions remain available today; there are in fact two identical uploads of the Corbis version. There is also another shot of the same track in the same forest.
