Mark Karrass is a stock photographer for Corbis (now owned by Visual China Group). He has taken several stock images that were used in Windows: the Windows XP wallpaper Ascent, sample pictures Blue hills and Winter, user account picture chess, Argentinian XP Starter Edition's Parque_Nacional_los_Glaciares and alleged Longhorn demo wallpaper Forest of Redwood Trees. As his photos were royalty free and not exclusive to Corbis, they were cross-licensed to other sites such as Getty Images, although they have since been taken down except on Photononstop. Very little is known about Karrass himself, although he could possibly be Mark Karras, who once owned a stock photo agency called West Stock.
