Windows Me, codenamed Millennium, is an operating system released by Microsoft in 2000.

Wallpapers

All of Windows 2000's wallpapers, which were mostly taken from Corbis and PhotoDisc, are also present in Me, along with additional ones taken by Microsoft employees. It has no default wallpaper, although it does have a branding wallpaper and an Active Desktop one. These wallpapers are stored inside webvw.dll on the disc, and are extracted into C:\Windows\Web during setup.

All of the patterns and wallpapers from 98 are also carried over (but are unpacked from .cab files rather than webvw.dll), which were in turn mostly carried over from 95, so these are not listed here. The Plus! themes and their wallpapers also appear in Me, though the More Windows wallpaper has been replaced with the branding wallpaper.

Sample picture

Windows Me only comes with the same sample picture that appears in 2000, which depicts an athlete preparing to undertake a sprint. It appears to have originated from Adobe Photoshop 7.0's CD, which ships with a selection of clipart images. Some elements of the image, such as hay on the ground, were edited out by Microsoft.

Setup backgrounds

The first stage of Me's setup uses the same grid of black and blue pixels as with 98, then the stage after that features two new backgrounds: one in high color and one in low color. Both versions feature thick lines in the bottom and top-right corner, although the low color version does not fade them out with gradients and its line colors are different. The low color version includes the Windows Me logo in the top left corner, while the high color version does not, instead opting to include the logo in three files intended for 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768 displays respectively These backgrounds were added in build 2465, the first build using the Windows Me title.

setup.bmp also returns from 98, but again is not actually used in its original context.
