Here is a glossary of terms frequently used on this wiki.

  • Original filename - the original filename of a wallpaper or sample picture, often hidden in the metadata. Example: la_casa
  • Rights-managed - a type of license for stock photos, where the image can only be licensed for one purpose per use; if a company wanted to reuse the image, they would have to pay for it again. Example: Azul.
  • Royalty free - a type of license for stock photos and other media, where the image is bought once and can be used several times without having to pay royalties. Example: Autumn.
  • Sample picture - a type of picture included in Windows 2000 to 7 for users to test the capabilities of Windows Photo Viewer. Example: Koala.
  • Stock photo agency - a company where other companies can license stock photos from, for use in various products. Example: Getty Images.
  • Stock photo ID - a short code used to identify each image on a stock photo site. Example: 427930-001
  • User account picture - a small picture users can set as their avatar for their account. Example: chess.
  • Wallpaper - a background used on operating system desktops or lock screens. Example: Bliss.
